What's the best less expensive way to travel?

I plan on going from Ft. Myers, Florida to Portland, Oregon with a friend for about a week. (flight + hotel) What's the best website to go through (Orbitz, Hotwire, Travelocity..) Is there a less expensive part of the week/month to go? (We're aiming for sometime between december and february)

The cheapest days for travel are Tuesday -Thursday. Hotels have specials. This is a good time of year as it is "off-peak", you just have to keep looking until you find what's in your price range. It can be done, just have patience!
