If i travel with more than one airline will my baggage follow me to my destination?

A week ago I bought my airfare off of orbitz.com. I don't know what i do to make sure my luggage all gets to London with me at the same time without it being left in Chicago where I transfer from American Airlines to British Airways. Help!

Yes. But to clarify when you check in make sure you state that you are switiching airlines and you need your luggage moved to that flight at your connection's destination....

From American to British, yes.

But in general from airline X to airline Y - only if the two airlines have signed an agreement to interline baggage between them.

Most airlines and especially the larger ones, have what is called an "interline" agreement to transfer bags. American and BA work very closely together and I am sure they transfer bags automatically. Check their website or give them a call.

When you transfer from a low cost carrier to larger carrier, there may be a problem, but not in your case with two large established airlines.

Hopefully you'll get all your luggage.

But BA has been disppointing us travelers with lost bags quite often.

Clearly tagged suitcases are helpful.

Good luck

Flyguy has it right. But to be 100% sure, look at the tags the put on your bags!
